Use this free forex position size calculator to estimate a lot size from your account balance, chosen risk percentage, stop-loss distance and pip value. Calculating position size before entering a trade helps keep the potential loss within a planned amount.
Position Size Calculator (Forex)
Formula: Position (lots) = (Balance × Risk% ÷ 100) ÷ (SL pips × PipValue per lot)
How to calculate forex position size
The calculator uses: position size (lots) = amount at risk ÷ (stop-loss pips × pip value per lot). First decide how much money you are prepared to risk, then enter the stop distance and the pip value that applies to your instrument and account currency.
Important limitations
Pip value varies by currency pair, exchange rate, contract specification and account currency. Gold, indices and CFDs may use different point or tick values, so do not use a standard EUR/USD pip assumption for every symbol. Confirm the contract specifications with your broker and round down to a tradable lot step. This estimate does not include slippage, commissions or gaps.
